Movie night rocks.

Hi, I think you repeated yourself here....There are two "Movie Night Rocks". Did you intend to write something else? Anyway, I think I shall take my in-laws to see Mama Mia. They liked the musical. Hope you are enjoying your vacation!

I have a friend who got her RN license two years ago and she made close to $40K a year just regular full time. She made more this past year working nights and said she could make even more as a traveling nurse. My friend worked in billing or something similar in a hospital for years and was treated like crap and paid crap, and finally decided enough was enough. You should do it, you have the smarts, nothing is stopping you. Go for it. RYN: You're right, it does seem like yesterday that I was writing about my mardi gras trip yesterday. That means you and I are getting old buddy! And I totally agree, the school girl rocks, I want her too. I bet half the guys at mardi gras wanted her. [Johnny Z Mayhem]

Real interesting entry. The biggest lie ever sold to the human mind was the lie of selflessness... aka working your buns off for the better good of every person but yourself. You know, I've read your entries for awhile now and I can feel a lot of what you are going through. You sound like you've wanted to do something with your life but had no idea what, and now despair of ever finding what you're supposed to do, if anything. So, this may be a long shot, but I'll throw it out anyway: You're apparently in a position where you have nothing to lose, which means you're totally free to do anything no matter how wild or stupid or unrealistic. So, if there's anything you wanted to do, now is the time to say "f*** it," and just do it. And it just might be what you were meant to do your whole life. I had gone the business route trying to be sensible and realistic, got a nice business world job which I hated, but it wasn't until I got fired that I realized I was floundering, and as I was ready to sink under waves, I finally understood what I wanted to do with my life -- writing/art -- which I had ignored because it wasn't realistic or sensible. I'm now poor, but I like what I do, and I am no longer miserable every day of my life. I have no idea if there's anything you wanted to do but put aside for whatever reason, but from reading your entry, now is the time to throw caution to the winds. You're gonna die anyway, why not have some fun on the way? [Johnny Z Mayhem]

Wow, a lot of points in this entry. I was really focused on the financial independence part, because I think about how it'd be nice to do what you loved rather than be a wage slave doing what you hated, and how you realy don't need that much money to do it compared to the amount that's out there, but getting that amount is so freaking hard. I've given up a lot so I can write and paint, but i still have to work, and I think how little I'd need to be financially independent compared to the trillions of dollars that are in our economy, yet how elusive those dollars are (I also consider how sad that little sh*ts like Paris Hilton are born into millions while more worthy people have nothing.) Even a few hundred thousand dollars and I could quit my job and live off the interest and do what I want, more or less. But to get that money most of us have to give up the idea of being a free spirit and be a work slave for years first. Strange how that works, be a slave just so one day you can be a free spirit. Once, when I was living in Tampa, I was in that position. My friend and I were both poor as dirt and we got our power turned off. We both had to scratch just to get by for awhile, and going to the power people to pay a reconnect fee made me feel like a major loser. It's scary being that poor. No one who hasn't gone through that can ever really understand how vulnerable you are when you're that bad-off. Money is like insulation from the ups and downs of life. [Johnny Z Mayhem]

I've been in that situation before, girls often want to stay "friends," but what they really want is the attention of a guy they know likes them, and if she blew him off she knows he'll still have feelinsg for her. making him the perfect person to provide a shoulder to cry on or to stroke her ego. This is a bad thing for you, and the best thing you can do is tell her to f*** off. She's still in rebound mode, and that means she'll have lots of ups and downs for at least 6-12 months, and she wants you there to smooth out the valleys, and of course, to sympathize when she tumbles from the peaks. Good for her, bad for you.[Johnny Z Mayhem]

Sexual partners, and bible thumpers who define it.
|
Most men I've talked with have told me they prefer slutty women to those women who don't sleep around a lot (unless they marry one lol). It's a weird thing, there is no similar definition for a man who sleeps around and I think people tend to accept men's sexual adventures without a second thought, yet if a woman does it...she's branded a slut with all it's awful connotations. I wont lie about how many sexual partners I've had. I'm pretty laid back when it comes to talking about sex. Way I see it, why be anal (and no pun intended) about something which is so natural, regardless of gender. If less people put so much emphasis on sex, maybe getting out there and doing it wouldn't be seen as something 'wrong'[PseudoEmma]

Ouch, mr. Springer.
|
While I used to love watching the theatrics on the Springer show, I soon tired of the oddballs coming on relating every one of their sexual exploits to to the world. I found the black women were worse, you would think given the prejudice they encounter on a daily basis because of the colour of their skin that they would do as much as they could to improve themselves but nope...you'd find them on the Springer show, waving their hands about, screeching their ebonics and doing the chicken neck thing on national tv. I'm not racist at all but I hate the way so many of them seem to have no self respect, whatsoever. [PseudoEmma]

7 in two and a half years? That's the amount I've slept with so far in the whole of my sexually active life. haha I love this entry! You're so right. The same bullsh*t happens in the UK too with our media promoting the American lifestyle like it's something to be desired. I don't dislike Americans at all, I just don't buy into the hype of the American dream, the need for therapy over the simplest of things and the emphasis on 'bigger is better' and 'material wealth is the new god'. What I hate most about the way Western societies are structured is the way they attempt to smother individuality and freedom of expression. Everyone should have the right to the whole of the wages they have earned, privacy, freedom of choice and expression without some governemt official keeping tabs on them or some lawyer slapping a summons into their hand.[PseudoEmma]

The egg pasta sounds tasty. I did myself a pasta dish with some leftover chicken yesterday. I stir fried an onion and a red pepper in a little oil, reheated the chicken and then added lashings of black pepper, Mrs Dash seasoning (which an American friend of mine sent me in her last parcel) and finally added a chicken stock cube and a little water. I stirred this into a dish of pasta and mixed in a fair sized glob of mayo and for something so simple it tasted delicious! [PseudoEmma]

Sexual partners, and bible thumpers who define it.
|
Well, the term "slut" for most people just means a woman who has sex with lots of guys, which is bad for guys because that means she might not be monogamous to him. But some people, particularly in the D/s (that is, S&M) community, now use the word slut to mean a woman who is not afraid of sex or sexually uptight, or in other words, giving it the positive connotation of a woman who is in control of her life and unbound by backward social conventions. It's a way of taking the power out of word that is misogynistic.[Johnny Z Mayhem]

I read somewhere that straight men average 8 women in his life. Of course this includes those who get married at 18 or who are religious and only sleep with those they are married to and so driivng down the average, but I guess if you cut those out, the average would be higher. My guess, and this is only a guess, is that for a guy who has not been married since 18 and who is not overly religious, then you're slightly above average. So ummmm.... Congratulations for being above average![Johnny Z Mayhem]

One day work.
|
When I was 18 I did about 6 months worth of nurse training (before I realised I was enjoying my social life a whole lot more and I couldn't possibly mix the two) It's amazing how quickly you get used to old people dying when you work with them. Death is something we concern ourselves about so much, usually with the internal fear that we are eventually going to lose those we love most, but in clinical situations, it's a different story. Rather you than me, I can tell you.[PseudoEmma]

Tired old fool
|
I can relate to that last part, when you ran the streets in your early 20s everything was fun even in those rare cases you didn't really want it, but as you get older you wonder if the fun will run out and you'll get no more opportunities to play, so you take them even though many times what's offered isn't really want you want. It's like grabbing for the last piece of cake, even if it's stale, because you don't know when you'll get to eat again. As for the lack of energy, part of that might be stress from losing a job, that always runa you down, but comsidering the problems you've had even before that, maybe you have depression or some other problem? Maybe you should get checked out? Seriously, man.[Johnny Z Mayhem]

This is fascinating stuff, but depressing. Sad to think that people go out pretty much unnoticed, I hope my end isn't like that, but I supposed if you live long enough, it will be since you'll outlive the people that were truly close to you. You know, just a thought, but you write well, you could likely write up some of your work experiences in a book, showing how things really are in medicine, the bullsh*t free version. As I said, just a thought. Just write a page a day in here for a few months, you'd likely have enough to start with.[Johnny Z Mayhem]

You live by my own philosophy of there only being one way to go when you hit rock bottom. Something that helps me break the funk when I'm feeling close to losing it is doing the thing that is most difficult or I'm most afraid of doing. I believe that dreams are simply the minds way of dealing with everyday issues we have, when we're at rest. You never said if she called you back, you mentioned in a previous entry that you were scared another guy may come along had you committed to her and you're dealing with the end of the relationship, coupled with all the self depreciating thoughts about yourself, eg you're a loser and somehow deserved to lose ehr because of what you see as your own shortcomings. That's all there in the dream, don't give it any credence, it's just a jumble of everything you're experiencing and thinking right now.[PseudoEmma]

A Fact to the bone
|
I think you're being very hard on yourself. Relationships are hard and I suppose that might have scared you some distance into you, but in the end, things would probably have ended up the way they did anyway. And in any case, you should have kept some distance because she was married and may well have been using you to some degree, and you have to protect yourself as well. Beating yourself up over this is foolish. It was a bad deal that didn't work out, and you must have known at some level that it wasn't the best situation you could hope for.[Johnny Z Mayhem]

Well I understand what you're saying, it seems some people have a lot of true loves in their life (granted, they tend to be shallow) while most people have one, or if they are lucky, two great loves, but some of us just seem destined to be alone. So you're not alone in that, I feel what you're saying, but I like how you put it, instead of "It wasn't meant to be," you say "It just didn't happen." Still sucks either way you put it.[Johnny Z Mayhem]

Sorry to hear that things have worked out this way. You're right of course, nothing can eliminate the depth of emotion you felt in the time you had an intimate relationship with this woman. That's yours and yours alone, always. I can understand your reluctance to put yourself in that situation again though and wish you happiness and many more great f***s in the future.[PseudoEmma]

I think, having read this entry that you are one of those people who are happy in your own skin. The fact that you can accept the mistakes in others, to me at least, symbolises that you can accept your own faults, and therefore the faults of others. That's rare and admirable. Go you![PseudoEmma]

Ah the joys of procrastination. For the record, I loathe going shopping for food and wait until I'm down to my last sachet of rice and noodles before going. Pee smelling grannies blocking the aisles with their shopping trolleys as they rifle through the 'reduced' shelves looking for 20p off their fave brand of air freshener, snot nosed kids wailing because their frustrated 300lb mother wont add those chocolate covered cookies to the gargantuan mound of culinary sh*te she feeds them (or maybe just herself) Who needs it. Fired
|
You should be able to collect, you can't collect if you quit, but being fired should be ok. But maybe this is what you need. Getting fired a few years ago was one of the best things that ever happened to me, because I was hooked on the good income and benefits. But, once I was free of that middle-class attachments, I was able to go after what i really wanted. It wasnt all easy, there was a huge sense of relief for me because I hated that f***ing job, but then there was a sense of failure, and I wondered if I was a loser, although I knew I wasn't suited for the job. That was when I realized that I was sort of freed from the prison of middle-class values and could do something different with my life, take a detour, and thats when I made the leap into the arts. Granted, I'm poor, but I'm happy, and that sets me apart from 90% of the world. In one sense you've been given a gift (even though unemployment sucks), so I hope you look at it that way, and figure out what you really want. You obviously didn't want your last job, so what the f***, take a leap at something. You might as well, someone has already pushed you off the cliff. [Johnny Z Mayhem]

RYN: The problem I have with your argument comes down to oen major fact: Porn begets porn. A little porn tends to lead to lots of porn, and then new people will start assuming this is basically a porn site and either start writing more or just leave. As for it being their right, it's not like they can't write it or find places to post it, in fact, there are better places for porn than here. I don't particularly like censorship either, but I don't want this to be just another porn site. There are too many of those anyway. [Johnny Z Mayhem]

Deep hole

Many girls glom onto jerks and pass up the good guys, and once free of the old jerk turn around and find a new one. Keep in mind that Vic might lean on you to get through a bad time with her husband, even with a divorce, but the statistics say she'll move on and leave you behind, and very likely find a new jerk. I hate always being the voice of negativity, but unfortunately the chances of this working are low. If you decide to stay involved with her, keep dating on the side to protect yourself emotionally, and possibly find someone who's in a position to have a baggage free long-term relationship[ |
